Often there is a need to use images and photos in learning resources. One way of meeting our Copyright obligations is to use images available under Creative Commons licences. Flickr and Wikimedia are two excellent sources available.
Photos of Students:
If you want to use a photo of a student (or other people) then you are obliged to have a Talent Release form signed. Forms are available from the intranet.
MS Picture Manager:
With the vast improvement in camera technology, many images today are of a high quality. This generally means that they are also of a large file size. Making a picture smaller on the screen, doesn't make the file size smaller.
Using MS Picture Manager, images can be easily edited and the file size compressed allowing for easier and faster uploading. This is not only important in web-based content but also in word and powerpoint as these can quickly become so large that they take an age to load.
Displaying Photos:
There are a large number of free applications available to display images. The most common used within the TasTAFE are: Photostory, Picturetrail and SlideshowCoolIris also increasingly being used. Part of the strength of these applications is their interoperability - particularly with Flickr.
